Situated along the rolling hills of the Woods of Knockmore in the Speyside region of Scotland, Auchroisk Distillery was founded in 1973. Its name, which is pronounced "orth-rusk," means "the ford across the red stream"and refers to the well from which the distillery sources its water.
Auchroisk 20 Year Old Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from plump, ripe Scottish barley, which is sourced from local farms. Once the barley has been harvested, it is mashed and fermented with water sourced from Dorie's Well. The water, which travels through granite bedrock and then passes through sandstone before reaching the surface of the well, is so soft and clear that whisky expert Jim Murray called it "undeniably sweet"and "an exceptional water source." Following fermentation, the wash is distilled twice, first through Auchroisk's copper-pot wash still and again through its copper-pot spirit stills. The stills, which are equipped with incredibly high necks and nearly horizontal lyne arms, result in a whisky that is flavorful, yet light and elegant.
Once the whisky has been distilled, it is matured for a minimum of twenty years in a combination of American and European oak casks. As a result of this two-decade long maturation process, the whisky has an aroma of sweet toffee, clovers and honey. Notes of hazelnut, toffee and figs are complemented by hints of oak and spicy tannins, and give way to a zesty, slightly warming finish.
