The third international collaboration limited edition release from Kentucky Owl, Maighstir is a Scottish-inspired bourbon whiskey that showcases the brand's innovative whiskey craftsmanship. A result of the collaboration between Master Blenders John Rhea and new Kentucky Owl Master Blender Maureen Robinson, Maighstir Edition pays homage to the rich whiskey traditions of both the United States and Scotland. “Maighstir" translates as ‘Master’ in Gaelic, authentically highlighting the wonderful collaboration between these two great whiskey masters. Rhea and Robinson crafted this expression from a blend of 4yr old, 5yr old, 8yr old and 9yr old Kentucky Straight Bourbons, with mashbills containing corn, wheat, rye and malted barley, carefully chosen to convey a Scottish inspired Kentucky Straight Bourbon. The nose opens with aromas of small grains particularly the malted barley, with a hint of sweet caramel. On the palate, there is a sense of warm spicy sweetness from the rye that you might expect from a great bourbon, but then the combination and soft tones from the wheat and barley give a pleasant calming warmness to the tongue. …

About the brand

Formed in the late 19th century and closed for over a century due to the start of Prohibition, Kentucky Owl's story is a rather unusual one. Not many bourbon distilleries are resurrected after such a long hiatus, but Kentucky Owl rose from the ashes in 2010 and has been producing some of the finest, most full-bodied bourbon whiskeys this decade. Increasingly popular and with newfound cult status, the future is bright for this budding historical brand.
