About the brand
As one of the most prestigious Champagne houses in the world, the illustrious Dom Perignon started from what some may say rather humble beginnings. Initially created by the monk Dom Perignon, cellar master at the Benedictine abbey of Hautvillers, France - this iconic brand was the result of Perginon's masterful manipulation of traditional wine-making techniques, enhancing otherwise well-known processes and dedicating his time and passion to developing clear white wines from dark grapes - among many other innovations and advancements. The first vintage of Dom Perignon was created in 1921 and later released for official sales in 1936 by Robert-Jean de Vogue, who subsequently launched the brand. In the meantime, vintages of this highly favored Champagne were gifted in 1927 by Champagne Mercier to Moet - later of the world-renowned Moet & Chandon - and 300 bottles were purchased by Simon Bros & Co. of the United Kingdom in 1935; rocketing the brand into the eyes (and palates) of the rest of the world. A legacy of innovation, taste, quality, and a cult following later; this historical brand still stands today as an award-winning leader in exceptional French Champagne.
