This was one of two Dream Drams I tested today at the Whisky Show in London - my first Brora. It has a fragile somewhat waxy nose light tea flavors (Lord Dim and so forth) in the mouth and a salty exquisite completion of critical length. Its in every case hard to completely welcome a whisky at these occasions - and close to difficult to recognize a four star and a five star - yet this is unmistakably a tasteful whisky with a one of a kind flavor profile that merits more thought than I could give it. A treat.

Tasting Notes

Nose

At first maritime and mineral, with dried seaweed. Then a wave of flavours suggest a cider farm's workshop in springtime. Finally, sweet flavours roll in with green leaves, all on a faintly waxy base.

Taste

The waxy texture for which Brora is renowned starts sharper than you expect, with fruit, chili and fresh-ground black pepper. As the heat subsides, fruity dark chocolate and soft barrel-char smoke appear.

Finish

Some spice in the finish as aniseed slowly fade to leave sweet-spicy oak. With a final quick burst of black pepper and sweet fruit.
