About the brand

Tobermory Distillery is a unique Hebridean whisky distillery founded in 1798 on the Isle of Mull by John Sinclair - a mere ten years after the village of Tobermory itself was recognized by the British Fisheries Society. Due to a drop in demand during Prohibition in the US, the distillery temporarily closed its doors in 1930. By 1972, Tobermory was reopened under the name Lediag Distillery Ltd, but a series of closures due to limited water supply, storage space, and layoffs soon followed. In 2002, Tobermory Distillery was purchased by CL Financial and then later by South African-based Distill Group Limited - which has continued to produce the brand's signature Tobermory single malt whisky and a selection of peated whisky under the distillery's previous name, Ledaig Whisky. To this day, Tobermory remains the only active distillery on the Isle of Mull, producing upwards of 1 million liters of distillate per year. Tobermory's lineup includes various selections of aged whisky including the Ledaig 18 Year Single Malt, Tobermory Oloroso Cask Finish 21, and even a premium Hebridean Gin.

Not as peaty as the mark would infer with the exception of the nose. Better than I'd like for a bourbon. Simple completion however. Sufficiently charming yet not exceptional.

33 open containers in my assortment positioned through different visually impaired tastings. Checking them down! #19: Ledaig. Single Malt Scotch. 46.3% ABV. multi year old. Paid $60 Yes. I will presumably prop up back to this jug on an irregular premise. I dont think about terroir however this whisky poses a flavor like landscape. It is dissolved down structure material. Soil dirt Playdough and elastic on the sense of taste and on the button. Some fruitiness underneath all that mulchy gritty peat. A charming waiting ginger and saltiness on the completion. This is an adorable weirdo contrasted with the peat staples of Ardbeg Laphroaig and Lagavulin; fulfilling in its own particular manner. Joke ALERT: water uncovers this measure and uncovered increasingly vanilla whiskey pleasantness. I lean toward with no water. It would be ideal if you articulate this late chick. Tasting Notes

Nose

Quite light and well-balanced. There is a very soft peat with a gentle smoke. Notes of barley and malt extract, with walnut and pine oil and a hint of iodine, dried fruit and nuts.

Taste

Medium-bodied and quite rich. There are notes of spice and smoke gathering above the charred oak. The peat is quiet and dry with a touch of black pepper and earth.

Finish

Medium-length and slightly smoky with spice.
