On account of my companion Lee as a feature of our Scottish refinery inspecting group I got the opportunity to attempt this peaty Highlander. Till tonight I don't think I ever even knew about Ancnoc ( how the hellfire do you articulate that? A-Thump?). This is a smaller than usual me adaptation of a youthful Caol Ila less any saltiness or briny components. Peat hits you immediately with a weighty portion of citrus and a short sharp get done with a touch of gritty lingering flavor. Not awful. This is something I'd prefer to have on a cool stormy night. It may not be groundbreaking yet it's a strong center of the pack peaty whisky. Much obliged Lee!

Tasting Notes
Nose
Oilier and a little fatter than the Rutter, with linseed, peanut skins, coffee and soot. Blackcurrant and then caramel emerge along with a touch of salinity.
Taste
Big and mouth coating with peat, barley, white peach and toffee, then fennel and a hint of mint.
Finish
Long. Nice and sooty to start with, nutty too, before medicinal iodine and more smoke emerge.
