Auchnagie Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
A blended malt from The Lost Distillery Company, made to represent what the whisky from the long-closed Auchnagie distillery could have tasted like. Auchnagie produced whisky for just short of 100 years in Perthshire, from 1812 to 1911, and was dismantled the year after. After researching all they could about the workings of Auchnagie, The Lost Distillery Company created this expression to show us how the whisky might have tasted. A sad part of Scotch history is that many distilleries who were producing great whisky had to be shut down for economic reasons. Lost Distillery researches these "ghost" brands and recreates the whisky using a combination of documented evidence, knowledge of the distillery's former environment, and advanced whisky production knowledge as a guide. Auchnagie, a.k.a. Tullymet, existed in the Highlands from 1812-1911, using water from the nearby Loch Broom via the Auchnagie Burn. In the distillery's later years, barrels were matured at a facility owned by John Dewar and Sons. With extensive documentation about the distillery's surroundings and practices, as well as understanding of the strains of barley used, water source, peat-drying and years of barrel maturation, Auchnagie lives on through Lost Distillery. Note: tasting notes refer to the "Deluxe" edition and not the "Vintage" one.

About the brand
The Lost Distillery Company was established by former Diageo employees Scott Watson and Brian Woods in 2013 as a subsidiary brand of Crucial Drinks (the trading name of LDC Scotland Ltd). The pair established a working relationship with Professor Michael Moss of Glasgow University, who led a team of archivists to make an educated guess as to the whisky character of a handful of lost distilleries. Over the last century, nearly 100 distilleries have closed down due to financial hardship or neglect. The Kilmarnock-based company currently has permission to produce modern interpretations of whiskies from 20 closed distilleries. Each production run is small, at around 800 cases. In 2016 the company moved premises from the Olympic Business Park in Kilmarnock to Cumnock’s Dumfries House, a 2,000-acre estate restored by the duke of Rothesay in 2007.

have been interested about the Lost Refinery Organization vatted malt entertainments of shut refineries. I discovered three of them accessible in a huge alcohol store in KC. Each of the three are non-chill sifted and there is no caramel for shading; all pour a light straw shading. My buys were Benachie- - 43% ABV- - $50 Stratheden- - 46% ABV- - $60 and Auchnagie- - 46% ABV- - $60. Each of the three have great legs in the glass. The Benachie tasts of pie hull unpretentious dried organic product nectar and unmistakable peat. Not a peat beast yet it is available. The Auchnagie is comparative less dried natural product no smoke and a little better and a wonderful fieriness. I would give it a 4.2 The Strathden is like the Auchnagie however maybe somewhat better the heat appears to be progressively peppery a trace of smoke and there is a gentle astringency or saltiness to this measure. I give this one a 4.1 rating. I wish these were all the more promptly avaiable and at a lower cost; for there are a few great single malts out there equivalent to or better than these vatted malts at an equivalent or lower cost. That being stated I am happy I bought these and will most likely buy them again later on. They are exceptional and are it could be said masterpieces - the blender's craft. I regard and welcome that. What's more I see all that push to coordinate the different malts in the perfect extents must be exceptionally work escalated; and that will likewise appear in the last retail cost. I wish they uncovered what whiskies they utilized in the mixes as Compass Box does however such is reality. Good wishes!
