John Medley fled England for a new start in Maryland way back in 1634. And while he may have come for a new start, there are a few habits that die hard. Whiskey making is one of them. Just as soon as he got off the boat he was firing up his still which kicked off a great tradition of bourbon making in the Medley family. Later the family would move to the heart of bourbon country in Kentucky, and it was there that the modern Medley Distilling Company was born. It was founded by the 5 Medley brothers in 1940. The Sour Mash process mentioned on the bottle is a bit like the sourdough process in making bread. A little bit of the fermented “mash” from the previous batch is used to create the new batch. Medley’s Sour Mash Bourbon 1L comes in an extra big 1 Litre bottle for extra bourbon fun.
