One of Italy's oldest and most respected brandy brands, Vechhia Romagna was founded by Jean Buton of France. The Buton family had perfected the noble art of distillation in the early 1700s and developed proprietary recipes carefully curated in a secret notebook passed down through the generations. In 1820, Jean Buton, the most talented of the family, journeyed to Italy and launched an experimental distillery in Bologna after finding the perfect grapes in the Emilia-Romagna region. Buton created the first Buton Cognac in 1830, using Itay's very first steam distillation process. Over a century later, in 1939, the Vecchia Romagna brand was born - capitalizing on the authentic Italian marketability of the name and producing the distinct brandy in an equally unique triangular bottle. The brand was purchased by Gruppo Montenegro in 1999, who has continued to develop Vecchia Romagna into the flagship brandy it is today.
