Originally operating as an illicit distillery in Livet valley beginning in 1822, the Glenlivet became the first legitimate Scotch distillery in the small but iconic town of Glenlivet in 1824 when founder, George Smith, and his young son John Gordon took advantage of the newly passed Excise Act of 1823. Glenlivet has since become one of the world’s premier Scotch manufacturers, offering 27 different whisky products and multiple series’ of collectible limited-edition releases. The distillery has 7 different wash stills and 7 different spirit stills in operation each with a capacity of over 9,000 liters, and uses water drawn from springs located near the facility in all of its distillations. With over 200 years of Scotch mastery under its proverbial belt, Glenlivet whisky is highly favored for its light finish, ranking the 20th most popular whisky brand in the world and the 16th most popular brand in the US as of 2022.
